Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a new bike in the next couple of weeks and I've mostly decided on an 07 GSX-R750. I'm moving up from a CBR600rr btw. Anyway, I hate to leave Honda (I've only ever owned Hondas) but I want a little more midrange than my 600 and I am curious to try something new anyway. The only Honda I can even consider really is the 1000rr. Does anybody here who has a 1000rr have any experience with Suzukis (or the 06-07 GSX-R750 specifically)? I know coming to a Honda forum will give me some predictable responses and I agree that Honda really is the best motorcycle manufacturer out there, but any HONEST opinions on the Gixxer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

Honestly I think the 750 is under powered. Especially now with the new 600's coming out. Any of the 600's right now I would take. The new 07 Honda 6 and the Kawi 6 look pretty mean. Plus look at overall horsepower and torque. The 6's will be killing that 750. Plus 10-15 lbs lighter even. I am just guessing on that one. If you are going to bump up, might as well go all the way to the 1000 or the RC 51. You will not go wrong. Also has to boil down to YOUR personal likes and dislikes.

 

I don't know about the 6's killing the 750. Here are some quick numbers for ya (granted they are not for th 07 6R and 600rr):

06 GSX-R600 - 109.3 hp ------ 44.1 lb-ft
06 CBR600RR - 105.6 hp ------ 44.8 lb-ft
06 ZX-6R - 111.4 hp ------ 48.2 lb-ft
06 R6 - 113.0 hp ------ 43.8 lb-ft
06 GSX-R750 - 129.1 hp ------ 56.4 lb-ft

As you can see, the 750 is still considerably more powerful than the 600's (even the new R6 which is probably close to where the new 600rr and ZX-6R will be). Granted, the 1000RR makes almost 30 hp more than the 750 but it also weighs nearly 10 lbs more (451 for the 1000rr and 442 for the 750). I am still considering a 1000cc bike though. All of these numbers are from the March 07 issue of Motorcyclist....

 

I would consider looking at the 07600RR...The latest reviews are saying it feels its up to speed with a 750... Only problem with the GSXR's everyone has one but their is a reason for that....See which is more comfortable for you... I would of gotten the 750 but the 1000 was the same price as the 750..So, wifey did the choosing and I went Honda. Also, I do more sport touring so the bigger engine was a must..Ive always stuck with Honda/Yamaha. It all starts with taste.. U should also consider the 675, sweet bike, but the GSXR 750 is a tried and true sportbike. Truthfully, when I see a 750, in my opinion its the perfect bike. I love my 1000RR, if you can test drive them...Im considering getting the 750 for track use only, Theirs only one issue that bugs me about my CBR...The throttle numbsmy hand due to a slightvibration. its just cruising the highway at a constant speed of 70-78 ish.Maybe i have to adjust my riding style but I found this out this past weekend on some group ride here...boy was I pissed. I kept shaking my right hand out..it to the point where I almost had to pull over.

 

De Goose, Can I give you a tip from getting sore hands? Try not to support all your weight on your hands. Use your stomach and core muscles to do that. You should grip the throttle like your holding an egg. You do not need a death grip on it. I was like that too until I bent my elbows a bit and loosened up my grip and did not lean so much on my hands. Works wonders now. Try it and let me know.

 

I manage a Suzuki dealer and had a 06 750 for a demo last year. Its very tiny feeling compared to my 1k, skinny through the tank and seat. The power band is not as user friendly as the Honda, by a long shot. The 750 does feel more flickable, but the trade off is that it feels a little nervous to me leaned over, while the Honda is steady as a brick.

Really, truthfully, its hard to buy a bad bike in this day and age.

I'm sure the power band is subdued next to a 1000rr but how would you comparethe 750to one of your 600's? Considering the fact that I have never ridden anything above 600cc, I'm assuming that I won't be missing the power of a liter bike....

 

the GSX-R750 would offer the best of both worlds if it weren't made by Suzuki
as nice as it looks, the fit and finish of a Honda are what set the standard for the rest to achieve

there've been also some rumors of GSX-R750's overheating & radiator leakage

 

Look. . if it's really bothering you that much and you can't get a CBR1000, then why not consider a 900/929/954? They have the same or more HP than that 750 and will provide you with the mid-range you're looking for. My 96 900 is totally awesome in that respect and I think you could save yourself a mistake by picking up one of these older bikes up for just a few grand. I'm pretty sure that the dealer I just bought my '06 1000 from had a fantastic deal on a used 954.
