What i done with mine wasriding all gears to 4000-5000rpm not too slow or reallyfast either up to 500km (trying not to stay on freeways for long periods) then up to 1000km was taking it up to 6000-7000rpm (couldn't wait to twist the right handle grip) then got to a 1000km and (lets see what you can do, yeah!!!)
A lot of ppl say different ways, but it bolts down to having a new tight engine that needsto wear inslowly, so you have less friction...so you don't scratch no bore with your pistons..

You can also check your manual that came with hte bike:
pg 212- Pay "extra attention to how you ride your bike for the first 300 miles...avoid full throttle starts and rapid acceleration" That's it. As long as you do that, you should be fine.
I would also suggest changing your oil at that 300 mile mark, but the manual only requires that the first oil change be done at 600 miles.

yeah the slow break in thing was good 20 years ago but the tolerances now are so good in engine manufacturing that all you need to do is go by the manual
a lot of people put it on a dyno and slowly run it up and down the gears for half an hour or so right off the showroom. supposedly it works real well
