Oil Change Knowledge???
I do not have a Honda Dealer near me and I am coming due for my 600 mile service. The Honda dealer says I can use Castrol 10-40 or use Mobil 10-40 and just cross reference the oil filter at a parts store and use like a Penzoil Filter. What is everybody's opinion on this? Do I need to stick with a motorcycle specific oil or is there any difference to be concerned with???

RE: Oil Change Knowledge???
Yeah, man you need to stick to a motorcycle specific oil. One that is atleast meets the MA specification. You need to also make sure it is without moly. Also, do a search on here for oils and you will find more than you ever wanted to know.
Here is a link to a site that has alot of info on breakin and oil. www.peterverdonedesigns.com
Good luck

RE: Oil Change Knowledge???
I am no expert on oils but it is my understanding that motorcycle oils are differant in that they do not have all the additives that are used in automotive oils. Motorcycles do not want or need those additives. You also want to log your oil change in your user manual supllied with your bike and list the type of oil used and milage so that your warranty will be honored since you are doing it yourself and keep the receipt with it for proof.
I have seen that WalMart now sells Castrol motorcycle oil and they have filters also but I don't know if they have the right one for our bikes. I changed my oil the first time but stuck with the Honda GN4 for warranty sake. When I change it the second time I may go with full synthetic as I will have enough wear on the engine by then to use synthetic. I have always heard that an enginge won't wear in properly with synthetic oil. Anyone, feel free to jump in here and elaborate on this.
