Default New R1

Anybody c the new R1 yet? WHat the hell is this {All-new inline four-cylinder engine is the most powerful, tractable R1 powerplant ever, thanks partially to the world’s first electronic variable-length intake funnel system.}

Does that mean its gonna have more midrange power?

I dunno, but I heard they were having some problems with the reliablity of this new beast. Also something about being illegal for professional racing because of a electronically controlled intake? Anybody know about this?

I think it looks really good. Seems like those talking on r1 forums don't care for it too much. Same with new zx-6 on kawi forums. If the world didn't have honda i'd be on a yamaha.

Yeah, I was reading about that. It goes to short for low RPM's then extends out for higher RPM's (or maybe I have it backwards). They also went from 5 valves to 4 per cylinder. Also have the servo controled throttle and a slipper clutch like the R6. I'm not a big fan of the slipper clutch, but the new R1 is on my list as a replacement. Can't wait to see one in person.

I always wanted an R1 since they came out. Def glad i have the 1kRR tho...cant beat the fact that i can still ride down here in the hot weather durin the summer all day while u c the gixers n yamies pulled over cause they r over heated. just like that intake on the R1 n im wonderin how it will affect its performance like if it will actually work n how long it will work b4 it just breaks or gets stuck in one position.

The R1 looks alright (nothing compared to the 600 & 1000RR's), but they aren't nearly as fun or "feel" as powerful as the Honda bikes. You practially have to rev it to 9,000 from a light just to get decent power from it (compared with the 1000RR). Wonder if this "new" engine will help with that, but I'll stick with Honda. I let a friend who owns an R1 -(2004 model)- ride my 600RR and he was jelous of the handling. He said it "felt" faster than his R1, which made me happy. So power isn't everything, the "feel" of the bike is just as important.
