New 06 1000rr Owner
Wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking here for over three months gathering information so that I could make an informed purchase. Anyway, picked up an 06 1000 about a month ago and couldn't be happier. Wanted to thank everyone for sharing their thoughts and experiences, particularly regarding pricing. After only a month or so, here are a couple of impressions:
First: this is my first sportsbike, personally I think if you're mature and disciplined enoughto respect the amount of power that this bike delivers, you should be ok. But it definitely requires restraint. This is for the age old debate of 600 v. 1000.
Second: the powerplant in this thing is simply amazing. I find that I can pull power throughout the rpm band.
Third: if I'm riding aggressively, at times the front end is a little light and I find myself having to put it back on the ground.
Fourth: I'm curious as to why so many board members find it necessary to add performance mods, out of the box, this thing is a beast!
Fifth: there aren't too many CBR riders here in Atlanta, everyone rides GSXRs. If you're in Atlanta and you want to ride, shoot me an email.
Sixth: the bike is quality. I've had a chance to speak with many techs at different shops in town and they all state the CBR has the fewest problems (for those interested... according to the techs Suzuki has the most).
Seventh: I get tons of compliments on the looks of the bike.
I'm hoping to do a couple of aesthetic modifications: fender elimination, change some of the plastic parts for carbon fiber (i.e. chain guard). Maybe add a pipe to make it a little louder, folks in Atlanta are in their own world when they drive, they need to hear me coming!
Anyway, thanks again for all of the information.

Hey, congrats on the new bike! Good choice too! I got my '06 1k back in March and have no regrets. No reason to as long as you make an informed decision. Looks like you did plenty of research first. I pretty much left mine stock this year. Spentthe money on leathers and track time. Next year I'm thinking about similar mods as you are. No need for more power. Have fun, and oh, I'm sure folks will want to see pictures. We all like to see the new arrivals.

Beautiful in black. That's the one I wanted, but my daughter liked the blue and yellow. Now I know I can't get away from a radio, "It's the blue and yellow bike heading west." But that's OK. I'll get the black next time. You said the front end gets light sometimes, try passing up a hill in third - Now that was light!! Second and third in where I live on my road, fast to slow, now!! Instant passing for any moment. This also my first bike and I'm 41. Happy birthday for me last March. Sorry that I'm on the other coast, CA, or I would look you up. I am having a problem finding other 1kcbr riders in my area, just crazy Yamaha riders (they seem to be crashing alot). Fifth @ 160mph, only once. 140 alot, so much for my self control. I've said too much, have a good time!!!
