Default Need input on tires

I need some opinions on tires. Im lookin for tires that are a good all around tire for my 07 1000rr. I ride with different types of riders and bikes so im gonna need a harder compound center cause i do alot of highway runs but i definitely need soft compound for when diving into turns. I had the battleaxe bt016 on my 954 but didnt quite get to break em in due to a truck colliding with me (i really miss that bike). I also had the Metzler M3's on the 954 great tire but went through 2 sets in 1 season, but i guess when you put about 20,000 miles on a bike in about a season and a half that is not too bad.

Michelin Pilot Power 2CT is a good general sport tire. The center rubber compound is harder for durability but the shoulders are softer for grip. However the new Pilot Pure essentially replaces it: http://www.michelinmotorcycle.com/in...vent=powerpure

Competing with these are the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III and Dunlop Q2.

The Michelins have a V-shaped profile and give a quick turn-in.

You really can't go wrong with any of these tires.

I'd go with the 2CT's, BT-016's or Pirelli Corsa III's. They're all fantastic and are all trackday quality despite being street tires.

Don't worry about milage. Having the best tires on your bike is a huge safety advantage. I'll take the added grip over endurance any day.

Keep in mind with the Pilot Power 2ct's, I beleive the the center is not harder than a standard Pilot Power, but the shoulders are softer. They kept the centers the same for straightline traction, but improved the side traction with softer compound. So the centers are harder than the sides, but not harder than the standard PP.

Pilot Powers grip great, and have seen 7000+ miles on em. They wear amazingly well, especially for the amount of grip they provide. I don't think they make a better all around tire for durability and grip than than the PP. But Im biased... I'm so happy with Michelins PP series, thats all I will run from now on.

if we are talking for straight up street riding, i think any of the tires mentioned are more than sufficient... 90% of street riders dont push their bikes far enough to even get to see these super tires perform. Ive been riding for a long time, and i know i dont... but hey, this is coming from a guy that used to dig through tires piles in dumpsters, find a good tire with a nail in it, patch it, and ride it.

2CTs or Pilot Powers...really can't go wrong. If you can swing it..I'd go for the Pilot Road 2.

That is also good advice. While I've had the 2CT has over-heat and get greasy on the racetrack, I've never had a problem on the street. In fact it's hard to imagine a semi-sane street riding scenario that is remotely as rigorous as the racetrack.

Tire technology always progresses. They look like black, round, featureless rubber but there's very advanced technology in the internal construction and rubber compound.

Due to this progress, today's sport-touring tires are nearly as good as pure sport tires a few years ago. I see people running sport-touring tires at the racetrack in the novice group, and they do just fine. E.g, Metzeler Z6, Michelin Pilot Road, etc.

I personally use pure sport tires at a minimum, even for street riding. I figure my CBR1k is a sport bike, so use equivalent tires. However sport touring tires can work very well, even on a sport bike.

Power Pure's here, dual compound, just put 'em on quite impressed so far they make
the old 1000 quite a bit more agile...... longevity remains to be seen.
