moving up to RR
Hi guys, I'm usually hangin around in the 600 section of the forum, but after 2 years of total satisfaction, I think I want to step off my '01 F4i and onto a 1000 RR. But I have a few questions that I wanted to ask here first. At 6 ft. 260 lbs. the F4i just doesn't seem to have the torque that I need. The reason I love it so much is because it is damn comfortable to ride. I do not race, I use the bike for long mountain rides and commuting in the summer. Is the 1000 RR terribly uncomfortable on a long haul? If I'm not racing, should I stay on the 600? Everyone is telling me for my size, I need to be on a 1000RR. Also, what is the pricr range for the 2003-2005 RR? Thanks for any feedback.
I am 6ft and 230. The 1000 has tons more torque, you won't believe the difference. It's not as comfortable as the F4i, but it's not a killer either. The 06 has a pretty soft seat, supposedly more comfy than the 04 or 05 models. I haven't taken very long rides yet, but I know it'll take me a while to get used to it.
It is a different ride and it will take some getting used to. See if you can try one out to see if it's to your liking.

thanks for the info, i would like to ride one but i dont know anyone who has one. Does the front end come up easily if not careful? I know i can practically drop the clutch on the F4i and...nothing, tire barely gets off the ground! Not looking to do wheelies anyway, im not the type. I just wonder how forgiving this bike is on a heavy throttle hand.
I own an '06 1000RR, and I think its comfortable for the way the bike is built. I took a long haul on it, about 160, with one stop. The only complaint, (and its really not one) is the pain in the wrist because of the forward leaning. Other that that, the torque is leaps and abounds above the 600. I owned an '03 600RR, but made the jump to the 1000 becuase of my size. 6'2" 200lbs. You'll love it.....
Tons of power to spare - for now as a 6'00, 230lb rider and a little trying on the wrists as mentioned by many above. With a little squeeze on the tank with the knees, the wrists can be spared the brutality of longer mundane speed limit trips... saw the arm rest addiditive on the tank for the right arm on the tank in here - just a bit silly, but maybe I could slip the GPS or Radar detector on it - do noh...
Can someone give or illustrate a comparison between the power of a 600rr and 1000rr? I'm happy with my 600 but I'm ashamed to say I'm already looking down the road towards getting a 1000 in a few years (or as long as I can hold out). How twitchy is it rolling on the throttle out of a turn?
The basic difference is that a 1000 has more HP and torque with both coming on strong a lot sooner in the RPM range. Because of the extra mass of the positions and throw of the crank 1000's will not rev at high as 600's, unless you are talking about a heavily moded bike like they race in World Super Bike or MotoGP of course. 1000's are a little heavier but the HP to weight ratio is a lot higher compared to a 600. Some say if you are tall and heavy, say over 6 feet and 200 lbs, both rough examples, a 1000 will feel better as far as ride position but if you look at the differences in seating, bar and rear set positions the differences are minimal between 600's, 750's and 1000's if you ask me.
