Miles Per Tank

Miles Per Tank
I bought my blue and yellow 06 1000rr in September, broke it in and I'm only getting about 120 miles to a tank.I get less riding highway too. I asked the service department at the dealership and they said the engine actually has to get a little dirty, that the engine is so clean, it's chugging the gas withough restriction.Anyone have a say on this one? What should I be getting?

RE: Miles Per Tank
The engine needs to get dirty to get fuel economy???? Hmmmm. I'm going to leave that one alone.
But I average around 120-160 miles per tank on my 600RR depending on how I ride, how the weather is, how long I let it warm up, what gas I used, etc. etc. I have a very bad habit about keeping track of my gas milage FAR too much than I should. But I won't bore you with all that......no.......wait maybe I will.
But 120 miles seems about right, maybe squeeze out a little more, but, were you blinking red on your gas guage or did you have a bar or two left?, because when the last bar starts flashing, you usually have about .9 gallons left in the tank. So getting 120 miles out of roughly 3.8 gallons isn't too bad, but it could be better. (31.5 miles per gallon by the way).
Now, as an experiment (because I was curious), I wanted to squeeze 50+ mpg out of this bike, just to see if it was possible. And yeah, it is. If you ride REALLY REALLY REALLY easy, and shift every few miles per hour and maintain an average of about 35mph, never exceeding that, you can expect 56 mpg. BUT - That's no fun at all. So, another experiment followed, and when you ride like a bat out of hell, enjoying the sweet symphony of 15,000 rpms and pushing hard, expect 24-28 mpg (which is still freaking awesome).
Oh, and if you ride on the highway a lot, you usually get less fuel economy because you are always constantly around a higher rpm (7,000-9,000 rpm), depending how fast you are going.
Hope this helps, have fun and be safe.

RE: Miles Per Tank
Thanks!! I appreciate it!! I knew theservice guy was full of $h!t when he told me that, I just wanted to get a second opinion. I did the experiment thing too. I rode real soft for the first 600 miles (break in), I've got about 1100 on it now and since I the 650 mark, I've been ***** out(riding within my limits which is about 37% of what the bike could possibly do) and noticed a little drop but not much.
