Good call on the heat tape guys. I'm going to try that and see if it prevents it from getting worse. I can live with it as is, since it's not too bad, but just starting. I also agree that buying an $11k bike, honda's flagship sportbike, that it should be good to go from the start.

dwhite645, how many miles you have on the bike before you noticed the problem?
I just bought a 07 1000RR 2 months ago, I have just over 800 miles on it and have not noticed any problems yet. I should not have to put tape all over it, it is a new bike. If mine melts I will take it back to the dealer.

NeverL8: You'll have to take off the lowers to put the tape on. As far as the mid fairings, they should be ok and you probably won't have to do anything. At least mine seem ok...some of the padding in there is a little melted, but no signs of the actual fairings melting....yet

I bought the 07 as well, thought it was fixed, but didnt take the chance and applied the heat tape that I bought from Home Depot. So, far so good.

Same story here. I don't ride in really hot weather, so I don't know if the apparent success is due to the heat tape or just the fact I've never really pushed the temperature limits. The "heat tape" I bought is really just aluminum foil with adhesive one side and no insulation. There's probably better stuff out there, but I figured anything that would help reflect the heat radiating from the exhaust system would help.
