Long trip -CBR 1000

I'm debating whether to take my 1000cc crotch rocket on a 600 mile one way
trip from OH to NY over the July 4th wknd. Then back a few days later.

I love the baby cause it's new (Iguess) and the roads in the
Hudson Valley (where I grew up) are just beggin
for me to tear them up. But, I know from other past trips on my old 600 was that
after about 200 miles I got bored and ended up just fying like a madman to
keep my self interested. Anyone else make any long trips on one of these?

My 1000 only makes it about 120 miles tween fill-ups. Wonder if anyone has
feedback on that? Maybe if I treat it like a race tween fill-ups, I won't get
bored and hit 120-140 for mles on end.

Anyway, I'm curious what kind of trips othere guys have taken....

I've found I get bored on trips unless I plan interesting roads to ride. I spend plenty of time up front planning my route and avoid the interstate like the plague.

I try to find roads that run along rivers. They're generally 2-lane roads and twisty. I road from St. Louis, Missouri to St. Paul, Minnesota and just followed the Mississippi river as much as possible. It took a lot longer time, but it was a very memorable ride. Even when the road wasn't all that interesting, the small towns and people kept me interested. I took my time and it was a blast.

That's just my experience, but I've planned all my trips this way. Interstate/Highway is for cages as far as trips go. Secondary/Scenic/Twisty is for the bike. If you're just looking to make time and get there, you'll get bored on the highway, IMO.

so far the most i've put on mine in one day was about 300, but it was like oldfatguy said, on fun roads. i do alot on the interstate and get bored too. i do listen to an ipod which keeps me going (yes i know it cuts down on my hearing).

i usually get about 140 miles before my light comes on

Out here in wyoming at least where i am i have to ride at least 100miles to get to anything ressembaling twisty roads. just the other day though i hoped the interstate for about 120miles but then i got to the black hills and road up through spearfish canyon, then down to hills city. Let me tell you that was by far the best riding ive ever done, i loved it and the whole time i was just smiling. I love these bikes in the corner so well manered they are. i could practically open the throttle all the way in a corner and it just held right where it was supposed to..:D

Made a trip to Thailand from Singapore(if you know where it is) LOL last March and it was much fun I should say..The trip took apprx 950km..and 950km back home. Juz make sure you service your bike first before you go on your trip..U say its kinda new rite but I suggest you change the oil,top up coolant, check and adjust your brake pads, tires, wheels, chain, sprocket and oil it before you embark on the journey of your life..haha!!

Neway wish you have a nice trip!! Take care...

I wonder if the boardum would be a nul point. Don't get me wrong, I love my bike, but after about 150 miles, my shoulders and wrists are looking for a long break. Our bikes were not built with touring comfort in mind. Plus we certainly don't get the range (especially when playing hard) to make touring a breeze, I can really see planning the trip, but so you don't run out of gas along the way. Don't get me wrong, I'd probably do it, and probably will take long runs on my bike, but I will have to agree with everyone when they ask me if I'm crazy....

i don't mind doing roadtrips on my bike. for me though.. it's always more enjoyable to ride in groups on longer trips. i've made a few long distance trips solo... just not as fun.

I rode about 400 mi from Orange County to Monterey to watch The MotoGP last year. Best investment is a aftermarket seat!!! that was a fun ride except the straights on the interstates. That could get a little boring at times, hope you have a MP3 player!!
