Launching a 1000rr
Okay, I looked over the forums and did not find any threads to help me learn the proper way to launch...
I have a 04 CBR 1000RR stock and i was wondering what RPM to launch in and if i should just drop the clutch or just release it slowly... any suggestions before i go out and do a 12 O'clock with it lol??

I can't tell ya what rpms to launch at, I ride an F2 600 and I launch at 7~8000 rpms, cutting 1.7x 60' times, but DO NOT just drop the clutch, learn to ease it out and balance traction with not bogging the motor and not standing it up, you gotta get a feel for it, and it ain't gonna happen on the street, the track is MUCH stickier. I like to hit the 1/8 mile track to practice launches.

yeah, definately dont just drop the clutch. I've ran my bike a few times,(no pro here though) and my bike launches pretty good if I hold it at 4500 grand and gradually let the clutch out. As the bike starts to move, I increase the throttle to maintain the rpms to keep the engine from bogging down. Any more than this and the front end just went straight up. Of course, it all depends on how much you let the clutch slip. You could run more rpms and let the clutch slip more. the hydraulic clutch is little harder for me to launch. But it might just be me.
Again, Im not a racer or anything, this is just what worked ok for me. Practice what works for you.

i am a bit curious. are you launching just to ride normally or are you launching at the strip?
if you dont know how to launch to just ride on the street then STOP. do not ride any farther and go take a MSF course. they will teach you all that you need to know and you get to use their bike. if you dont know how to engage the motor then you should not be learning on a 1000. save yourself some money and pain and dont learn that way.

I had an 04, and I still have the parts needed for you to lower it for drag racing if thats what you looking to do. I also have a brand new set of swingarm extentions also if you going that route. As far as launching, its a fine line and a very careful clutch hand to get a good launch! With the bike lowered for the track and geared for it also, I would hold the revs at about 4500 and in one motion bury the throttle and ride the clutch. Now this takes a LOT of practice, so let it come slowly to ya. With only a pipe and tuning, I went 9.80's at over 140mph and I was about 240 in leathers at the time. Good luck and let me know if you need those parts.
