I worked as an E.M.T for 8 yrs,and have ran hundreds of bike wrecks, and if you think a helmet is going to save your butt at 60 or 70 mph your sadly mistaking.
You are incorrect

It has been proven that helmets do save lives. Your limited experience does not account for every situation where a helmet saved a life. Just remember, crashes happen at all speeds (not just "you're screwed anyways" speeds) so that 35 mph fall that would have left you with a headache will leave you with a collapsed skull.

My neighbor was bumped (intentionally) off a city street one evening ended up hitting the curb/sidwalk with his helmet at the right just behind the eye. Wonder what that would have done to the ole face at 30 mph.

MSF course insists that the rider has the helmet on before they sit on the bike. The extra weight of the bike falling over with you is more than enough to crak your head like an egg.

Do you still work EMS? Just courious.

I left the field also, didn't pay enough in my area to raise a family.

I'm a diver too.... recreational, but I'd love to dive for a living. That too doesn't feed a family around here. I teach as a dive master.

helmet lock is in the tool bag. Iactually had a situation where I had to ride with a helmet on the tail because I rode to the shop and bought a new helmet and had to get the old one back home. I used the lock through the D-ring and a cargo net to secure it to the passenger seat so it wouldn't flop around and interfere with the tire and stuff.

Get a stretchy net large enough to place the helmet under it. Then if you have a passenger just put the net in your jacketpocket or under the seat.
