Default Dumbass Oil question?

Ok i know i`m a dumbass, but i changed my own oil n filter the other day and when putting the new oil in i didn`t look at the amount on the container i just assumed it was the 3.1 litres it needs to fill up. So after pouring the whole container in i realised its a 4 litre container [sm=headbang.gif] (what a dick)

So my question is will it do any damage to run the bike like this? and if so what?

I don`t know if it will do any damage but Honda must recomend 3.1 litres for a reason. And for the price of 4 litres of new oil is it really worth taking any risk?

DO NOT OVERFILL YOUR OIL!!!!

That is bad for your engine. empty what ya got before you ride anymore and fill to the right level.

Why don't you just unscrew the oil filter just enough to allow the excess oil to drain out, then tighten it back up, stand the bike up and check the sight glass. Repeat if necessary untill it is at the correct level. No big deal.

Or just use a large syringe with a long piece of tubing (aquarium airline) on the end and draw what you don't need out of the oil filler hole.
Make sure the tubing is longer than the engine is deep so if it comes off you don't lose it into the engine!

May be easier than taking the lower fairing panel off again!

Extra oil means extra oil pressure! Extra oil pressure is not good, especially at high speeds. Can result in lots of damage to engine parts (Seals etc..) Theres a reason it ask for 3.1 L not 4L. You should drain the extra amount ASAP.

Hey there,

If there is too much oil in the sump your crank will smash into the oil with every revolution causing the oil to foam and maybe even result a loss of power (same with a car engine). Drain the excess as suggested by the other forum members.
