Default Does a higher gear ratio read faster or slower on a speedo…

‘08 CBR1000RR Gear ratio question…

Current: 42/16 = 2.625

Proposed: 42/15 = 2.8

%age difference: 6.45

Stock, my bike’s Speedo reads 6.66% (approx) fast.

If I regear to the proposed higher gear ratio, I think it will bring the speedo close to center (6.66-6.45=.21% fast).

Am I thinking correctly here? I’ve no experience in this area.

Thanks in advance.

Might be opposite. Adjustment to make here is ratio of output-shaft speed vs. rear-wheel speed. By going with higher gear-ratio, you'll spin engine and transmission output shaft faster for same rear wheel & road-speed. So will make speedo error even worse.

You'll want to go in opposite direction with 42/17 or 40/16 to slow down engine & transmission speed for same road-speed.
