RE: Chain life
If you keep it well mantained (every 500 miles) then it can last for 30K miles or so (on a 525 which is stock). a 520 chain on a 1krr will last around 8-12K miles if you keep it lubed (from what i heard). But yes i would do a whole new set (chain+sprockets) if you like, you can always drop a tooth in the front and add 1 or 2 in the back for more acceleration. from what i heard, alot of people love the -1,+2 or even just -1,0.

on 04-05's they are 530, but 06-07's are 525s..
going from a 525 to a 530 is just like adding about apound of rotating mass on the motor, which will make the bike more sluggish but more dependable (less likely the chain needs to be changed).
Usually only stunters use 530+ because they put a constant abuse on the chain (yet most stuntersare using 600cc's anyways, so it's not like a liter bike's power). Track bike are usually 520's so they keep the rotation mass as low as possible (every pound counts on the track)
i say 520's are good for 600cc (last around 12-16K miles) where liter bikes (last around 8-12K miles) so if your just a weekend warrior and ok with forking out $300 or so every 8-12Kmiles- go for it. but i would be going thru alot of chains [8D]
