Default cbr600rr or cbr1000rr

this is my first post and i am going to be getting a new honda bike soon, but im not sure if i should go with a 600 or a 1000, ive ridden a couple of buddys 600 bikes and have had no problem with them and have also gotten my motorcycle license through the motorcycle saftey school.....i would like to get a 1000rr but from what ive heard they are very powerful.....the thing is all buddys say after a couple of months with there 600s they already want to bump it up to a 1000.....and if i get a 600 i dont want to have to worry about getting a 1000 after a couple of months....i know the 1000 is about 3 grand more too so i figure i should just go with the 1000 and spend the money instead of wanting it a few months later.....but im 18 years old and i dont know if i have enough riding experience....any ideas?

If you're buddies are getting "bored" with their 600RR's, they dont know how to ride. Given enough time, even a 150hp liter bike can FEEL "slow". You adapt, and you deal with it. But for a newbie, no........a 1000cc bike is not a good tool IMO. I would even argue that the new 600's are poor choices for beginners. Get a used bike. Save some money, do some track days. Anytime you're bored with a bike, it's probably because you dont know what you are doing with it. A track day will put the "fun" back into riding it if that is the case for you. 110hp 600's are PLENTY fast to get you into trouble. Now that I'm done with this, do a search and you will find hundreds of posts saying the same thing. Then you'll find the odd newbie that DID start on a 1000RR and say ............OH, I've done it and I didnt get hurt, just respect it". Yeah, you've had it for 3 months, you may make it through the learning curve, but the odds are against you. Hell, even the knuckle head below a couple of posts is "BORED" with his 1000RR. Do as you please, buy what you can afford, if you get hurt, know that you've been warned. Good luck.

I got my first bike, 06 cbr1000rr, last march. Everyone said to get the 600 as my first bike, but you'll want the 1000 soon after. Why would I want to invest in a bike that is going to be replaced? I love my bike! It does have the temptation of speed and it is a little heavy at 388lbs (or so). I think that is very stable and does well on gas on long, flat trips (48mpg), but it really eats up the gas when your having fun (33mpg). I am 41 and have worked on cars for 25 years and I know that if some young kid started on this bike that he or she might speed right into the back of some car or off the road into trouble. Don't let me sway you from this bike though, what a blast. More fun that any ( and I do mean ANY!) car that I have driven. I"m a very happy rider!! Ride on..........

My next bike is either going to be a cbr600/gsxr750 or a VFR. More than likely a VFR. My first bike was a used bike, 2000 gsxr 750. Yes, I laid it down a couple times, got hit by a car, etc. My advice to you, if you have to have to have a honda, buy a newer f4i or something similar. Buy something you can turn the throttle pretty hard and it not be overly aggressive. I have a 1krr and I'll have to say, it's a complete waste if you're just going to ride it on the street. I enjoy it, but having that much power is pointless, especially for someone just out of the MSF course.
