If someone is "proud" of being a squid they either a) have a deathwish and don't care how dangerous they are to themselves and others or b) don't really understand the meaning of a Squid.
The whole issue with riding gear is another thing entirely, yet it does feed into the definition. I think when you get to the point that you're above 30, have a good job and good income, have a young family with a wife and kids, you start to care more about enjoying your hobbyin a safer and smarter manner. I'm not going out on the highway with just shorts and sandals for the same reason I'm not going to mainline heroin, it may feel good but it's just too dangerous.

i guess if you call somebody a "spuid", it makes you better than they are. i could care less. i ride in shorts and flip flops all the time, but thats just how i roll. my three cents worth

riding "squidly" increases your chance of wrecking and getting hurt when you wreck due to the lack of gear. and its not just about you. what about everyone else whose insurance rates go up because you wreck your bike and all the medical bills your insurance (if you even have it) pays out. they recoup that by raising everyone elses rates.
so like i said when i see you wrecked bleeding on the side of the road i am going to steal your wallet and scavenge whatever parts that are still left on your bike and then maybe kick you in your shorts covered ***** for making my insurance go up.

your overly repeated saying of insurance keeps going up because of reckless (squids) driving. My insurance, which I do have full coverage with all the whistles and bells,keeps going down each year. So why does yours go up if you ride safe and don't have tickets. By the way I have only received one ticket on a motorcycle in the last 19 years.
And if I were laying on the ground after a squidly wreckand you came near me I would muster up enough energy to kick you in the ***** first.... muuhhhahhahhhhaaaa jack ***.

I gotta totally agree with RCR.... Some of the guys on here are like the Safety Hampster that came to my school in second grade. Do you still not you matches because they CAN burn your house down?
I love the guys on here that shout off about safety and gear and bitch about insurance rates are also the ones who claim 'everyone will lay one down' and that apparently NOONE should EVER get a 1000, or that a anyone who buys a 600 as a first bike is as dead as the day is long.... Got news for ya jerks, a 600 was my first bike, and I dont wear gear... and 5k miles and never once have I had a problem. I PAY ATTENTION to things around me, DONT EXCESSIVELY SPEED, DONT STUNT, and just generally am not a JACKASS... you in your full leathers doesnt mean you're better off than I am out riding...

The term SQUID is used way too much. Too many people callin others squid for this or that. You could rock full gear and obey all traffic laws and someone will still call you a squid. Its used so much that it barely has any significance. Maybe we need to switch it up and start embracing squid. Maybe i'll start a bike crew "SQUID PROUD".
