I don't know if it is the case for all 1000's but mine were burning do to wheelies. Coming down from a wheelie made them flex in against the exhaust causing the burn marks. I put that cheap metal looking tape that they use for duct work in houses and its been fine. Been out several times and no burn marks and the tape is holding up well. also, the tape is really light for those who are worried about weight issues.

Heat Tape, TwoBrothers Racing website has it. Place that on the inside the fairings, make sure you clean the surface first. It should work.

My question to every body is has this happened on any other year 1k. I just got my 04 from a old guy with hardly no mile on it so I think he only used it to go to the corner store and back. But I live in Vegas and I like to ride and ride hard. So hopefully (knoc on wood its only the 06)

And Army guy, after reading some of the post I would take my @$$ back up to the dealership and get my money back and have them replace the damage parts. Besides my man doing the wheeles its not your fault that this is happening![:@][:@][:@]

When I changed my oil for the first time I noticed the insulation had a burn spot through the black outer layer to the inside insulation. I believe this was on the mid fairing (the lowest painted one on my 06), and it appears to be due to the radiator as that spot rides right on the radiator.

If you do the PAIR mod it will stop injection air in the exhaust, that stops the afterburn. It will make the pipes run a lot cooler.

Well, add me to the list. I've got a 06 cbr 1k also with just over 1800 miles. Not only are my lower plastics burning, but my side plastics heat pads are melting. Took it in to my local honda shop and showed them. They contacted honda and was told to replace it all, along with temperture sensor that's connected to my fan. Hopefully this will take care of it. Well at least now i dont have to clean all the bug guts off plastics now lol
Good luck and have fun on the twisties.

I ride everyday. Almost 100 miles a day and I also ride hard on the weekends.

06 blue/yellow with 4033 miles and not one problem with the plastic or anything else. I've never had one come in my shop with this problem either.
