3 Things. 1. Welcome to the Site. 2. Please read the sticky at the top of this forum... this forum is for posts on HOW you did things, not questions on what needs to be done, there are plenty of nice people over in the 1000rr forum and general tech section that would be more than happy to help you out. 3. I would recommend crackin' open your owners manual and going by what Honda's engineers tell you. I know with my 2007 600RR the manual basically said "Dont go wide open from a start or do really heavy acceleration for the first 300 miles". Whatever it says, I would go by that. There's been many questions asked about this particular thing before, so feel free to use the sites "search" function to find threads on "break in" periods for bikes.

Thanks... and again, welcome to the site! Post some pics (in the 1000rr or New Member Area forums) of the new sexy bike!

if you beat on it, it will be a "faster" even more aggresive bike than it already is ! But......... sure as hell that engine won't last too long. Racers break their engines by running upto the red line from the start, but then again they can afford to exchange their motors every 2-3 races or so. My advice is don't go over 6000rpms , accelerate and let it fall from the rpms without pulling in the clutch.
Go through all the 6 gears accelerate and decelerate in the same fashion as I mentioned. Break with the enigine . You do this untill what the first 600 miles or so, go have your initial check up (oil, filter exchange) , check all the fluids, and this way you can ride it above 6000 rpms. Good luck and have fun

If it were me. I would beat the hell out of the bike and change the oil like every 100 miles for awhile.

Just follow your manual (page 212): "...avoid full throttle starts and rapid acceleration"

Dont forget to do your first oil change at (or before) 600 miles

i like to do it before and then again at 600

a lot of people say that honda ships the bike with a special break in oil but then from people that actually work at a dealer say that they themselves pour the oil in (i watched GN4 off the shelf being poured into mine before delivery) and that there isnt anything special about it.

I would be surprised if Honda's engineers hadmuch to do with the wording of the break-ininstructions provided in the owner's manual. For years and years and years all Kawasaki Ninjas, from the 250 to ZX-11 rolled off the assembly line with the same exact sticker on the tach. 0-500 miles 4000 RPM max; 500-100 miles 6000 RPM max. That's just silly. I doubt very much this came from Kawasaki's engineers.

As for the CBR1000RR- Use full throttle. Yes... Use full throttle, but for short bursts only. That's what Kevin Cameron says to do, and he knows more about motorcycle engines than anyone reading this forum.Pick up a copy of the Sportbike Performance Handbook and you'll learn a lot about sportbike engines.
