anyone else hear about the 08-09 1000rr having a top end power restrictor
so i was reading around about the 08-09 cbr1000 before i bought it and saw one thread that breifly mentioned how the new 1000rr's actually cut down to 155hp after they reach 10200rpms. anybody else hear that and if its true can you bypass it. what makes it do that in the first place

I just saw that thread recently, it's in the 1k forum somewhere. Damn now I can't find it! Well some ****** was jawin how his euro model had like 20 more horse or something stupid like that because the American models were governed. That's a bit hard to believe I think. Maybe a CA model or something?

The European models do have more power, but as GBracer said, its not 20hp, its a lot less than that. And, its not governed, its just the restricted emissions that cut the power. Exhausts will change it.... also as already said.
The new R1 was around 10 hp down compared to the euro models, which is quite a bit.

oops.. didnt mean to spread hearsay..
I actually just got done reading an article on the new R1 and its euro to US exhaust differences when I came across this post... I should know better than to assume that Honda did the same thing as other companies. It seems kind of funny that Honda would lower the max rpm just to pass noise emissons though. I wonder why they just didnt open the exhaust valve a little later.

I think it's odd that they went about it this way as well. Realistically they didn't lower the max RPM, they just lowered the RPM at which max power is made by retarding the ignition timing after 10,500 RPM. Right on the fringe and got screwed by a technicality! I guess Honda, in there infinite wisdom had there reasons for it.
