I just saw that thread recently, it's in the 1k forum somewhere. Damn now I can't find it! Well some ****** was jawin how his euro model had like 20 more horse or something stupid like that because the American models were governed. That's a bit hard to believe I think. Maybe a CA model or something?

Hmmmm...2 posts? New to Honda forums? VERY old news...do a search on 08's restricted. Its also only about 7 hp up to thats cut.....and easy to put back. Unrestricted with pipes, an 08-09 Honda makes as much hp as a 09 GSXR 1000 with a pipe.

The European models do have more power, but as GBracer said, its not 20hp, its a lot less than that. And, its not governed, its just the restricted emissions that cut the power. Exhausts will change it.... also as already said.

The new R1 was around 10 hp down compared to the euro models, which is quite a bit.

OMG did you know its restricted to 186mph...so much for making that quick trip to the corner store. Damned beaurocrats limiting our velocity... I say we sue.

Exhaust has nothing to do with it. It is ignition timing related. The exhausts are the same between Euro and U.S. spec.
Yep. Not exhaust, ignition. 1000RR.net actually has a lot of facts, unlike the hear say that is usually spread around here. If you havn't read the 140 page thread on this topic from 1000RR.net, then GTFO!

Read this as well http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/...?article=32686

oops.. didnt mean to spread hearsay..

I actually just got done reading an article on the new R1 and its euro to US exhaust differences when I came across this post... I should know better than to assume that Honda did the same thing as other companies. It seems kind of funny that Honda would lower the max rpm just to pass noise emissons though. I wonder why they just didnt open the exhaust valve a little later.

I think it's odd that they went about it this way as well. Realistically they didn't lower the max RPM, they just lowered the RPM at which max power is made by retarding the ignition timing after 10,500 RPM. Right on the fringe and got screwed by a technicality! I guess Honda, in there infinite wisdom had there reasons for it.

Yeah that R1 certainly does look like a toilet doesn't it? I'd drive my CBR with a damn hamster on a wheel power plant before I'd drive that ugly abortion.
