929rr vs 05 1000rr

It depends on what you value in a liter bike. Some value wheelies, some value stability. Between the two, you'll probably find the 1000RR a little more race inspired seating position. You sit up and over the tank more. its a little easier to get into the proper body position for aggressive cornering. The final gearing is much taller too. For me, I like it. If your a wheelie guy, you won't like the 1000RR as much as the 929. The 1000RR has a much longer swing arm which transfers power to the ground better and keeps the front down better. Also, the taller gearing limits the front end from coming up so often. with the geometry changes, it also makes the 1000RR less twitchy and it really stays planted in corners. the only down side to this is the bike is less flickable. Its still crazy easy to switch side to side, but it can become a bit heavy feeling if your really into a lot back and forth corners. But for how stable the bike is, its well worth the slight trade off. However, it will still wheelie easy, so you still have to keep your wrist in check.
If you do get the 05, keep an eye out for an 06-07 1000RR seat. You can still get them fairly cheap. The 04-05 seat is very hard and will become a pain even on short trips. The 06-07 seat is the same seat dimensionally, but it has softer foam and is much more comfortable.
Some things to note. They tend to run a bit hot, they crank over rather slow when compared to other bikes, and the engines are a bit noisy. These are normal characteristics of these bikes. So if you ride it and you notice any of them, its normal.
There were some recalls on the stators. Although I've never had an issue with mine.
But I've had mine since it was new and haven't had one issue with it. I'm over 20k on it and its been flawless.
