I use the words in a sense lightly, just run the higher octane so you don't run the risk of "detonating"/"Blowing"/or "burning" up your engine prematurely for the simple fact of being a tight wad on a Very high tech, high maintenance machine.

The fuel octane level offered in Singapore are higher than most states in the US..the lowest octane is 92, then 95, the highest 98. I usually run in 98..not to say that I'm rich but its the norm here for bikers to run 95 or higher..Is there any downside for running in high octane fuel for a relatively low compression engine like our Fireblade??

12-1 compression isn't low. If you can afford the 98 it sure but you can run the 92 oct and be fine as long as it's unleaded.
