600 Mile maintainence
Can someone tell me exactly what they do for the 600 mile check up besides change the oil and filter? I wanna know before I fork over $300. If they are things I can do I rather do it myself than have the dealer do it. I know they go over the bolts to make sure they are tight but which bolts? Can't be all of them.

You hit it right on the head.Adjust chain, check tire pressure, check lights, horn, saftey switch, kill switch and any recalls. If you can get a wrench or socket onthat bolt or nut, check it to make sure it's tight. It's been a while since I've done one so if any wants to fill in anything I've missed.

Throttle freeplay, rear brake light switch adjustment (make sure it comes on at the correct time), tire pressures again (should be checked every time you ride), idle speed (about 11-1200), steering operation...remember, the first 600 miles on a bike are kind of like the "shakedown" period where most of the things that might loosen will prob. loosen. That's why the first service is at 600 and all the rest are at 4,000 mi. intervals. Like brsxrss said, if you can get a wrench on it, give it a good twist and make sure its still tight.

RE: 600 Mile maintainence
Mine's going in tomorrow afternoon... waiting on mods, so the timing works out... My first service was included with the purchase (I know I paid for it anyway), so at least I don't have to fork anything else over... I didn't want to add any mods (other than the flapper) before my 600 mark, just in case...

Ok come on guys let be real, I know I dont have a new bike BUT I have been riding for 12 years and every thing that y'all said that is done at your 600 mile check up I do on a constant bases.
1. check tire presure every time I ride
2. check for any loose bolt on the regular ( if there is a bolt the is constantly loose i break out the the locktight)
3. check my chain
4. oil and filter (3 thousand mile ON THE DOT) I DONT PLAY WITH THAT!
5. idle speed I normally notice when I at a stop light or some thing and if its out of the norm I make a mently note and check it out when i get home
The free play in the throttle I dont mess
The steering operation is new to me with the electronic dampener (not messing with that)
Tell me what else I am missing!
