OK...so I own the '05 600RR and love it....but...........want more torque............do I (A) Mod the crap out of mine or (B) just go with the Litre Bike??? Already posted in the 600 area...should be interesting

more important than the opinion is WHY? I know insurance will be less if mod...what do I need to do to get 1k performance out of my bike......oh yeah.............ONLY road ride. Could go RC51?!?! Looking for best all around bike that I can also take for long ides with my wife on the back.....5'11"...muscular 210 lbs if matters for specs

The RC51 makes more power and tq than your 600, but it is heavy and geared way too tall. It will only be slightly faster than your RR. Gearing will enable you to keep up with 1k's on the street at any reasonable speed, but you'll have to shift like a madman. With gears you'll use up both 1st and 2nd to get to 100mph whereas a 1k will get there in 1st gear. I would feel sorry for a woman who takes a long ride on any sportbike, unless she is oompa loompa short; all sportbikes are uncomforable. The RC51 will have just as high insurance as a 1k probably because it used to be Honda's state-of-the-art superbike. So, you want more torque and something comfortable for the street. Hmmmmmmm..... Sounds like you need a Hayabusa.

 

Go with the 1000RR by the time you mod your 600 enough to even sniff at the rear of the 1K you`ll be poorer than its worth, even considering the insurance difference.

ok: 600 - $8500, 1000 - $12500..so about $4k diff; 2k race complete pipe install (-10 lbs and +10 hp), can drop 10 lbs on bolt/hardware titanium kit alone...couldn't I do something else pc kit, cams, something and still be there with 2k..then have the litre bike performance on a REALLY light bike with lower insurance?

never sat on the 1000RR...is it more comfortable than the 600...or are the dimensions about the same? I wouild just go ride one, but none left any where near me...know tons of guys with r1s...but not going there

If you want the power of a 1000 you will need a 1000. You can bore a 600 out as far as it goes and mod the crap out of it and with gearing it might be as quick... like 0-100 but not faster and not the power. Maybe a turbo charger but they are a tone of money.

 

yeah but with the turbo, there's the lag...I alredy have that since not enough torque, good HP, but not enough torque...you might be right

1000 is a must if you're going to ride consistently and are looking for hp. You mentioned around $12,500 for a 1000RR... If you're going for a new one, then I agree - BUT WHY!!! Plenty of used 1000RR's out there for sale by great owners. Just need to take your time and research what to look for and you can pretty much tell what a bike's tale has been. Definitely don't rush in. Back in 95' I thought I could only afford a ZX-7R, but I really wanted a 900RR from Honda. Searched the adds, so for $8000 I found a great used (1,700 miles) 95 900RR vs the $8000 new ZX-7R. No regrets, after 10 awesome years I sold the 900RR a couple of months ago and bought a used (2000 miles) Repsol 1000RR which are normally more than the regular 1000RR's for $9,500, or I could have bought a New 04 1000RR for $8,700 at the dealer....that was a no brainer for me. There is another 04 1000RR at www.Sevieroutdoors.com selling for $8,995 which is a tad high for an 04, but it has no miles and maybe you can deal them down a bit further. They're in Vicksburg, MS which might not be close enough for you. My 1 cent: Seriously consider the 2nd hand market, but take your time and get a dealer to check it out as well... Good hunting!

 

Airguardian...good thoughts....the only thing I lack is the low end torque.....PLENTY of HP once get over 8k....PLENTY....I know can switch out pipe and go PC to bring down to 5k...but I want that first 5k the most!!!! I road ride.

 

Your always going to lose out on power no matter how much money you throw at it, it depends where you want to use the power. I presume you like track riding and fast road riding to be asking anyway, so ? ?

Mod out your 600 and limit your top end by alot, or buy the 1000 stock outrun your 600 and away you go, you really need to find a friend who has one and go out on some twisties to compare the bikes. See which you like better.

As for comfort, i`ve never rode a 600RR but sitting still they seem pretty well equally propportioned, you will notice a bit more weight with the 1000 to flick about but thats easily fixed if you wanted to, go with a 55 profile rear and its more agile. Not that i can`t flick it with the standard 50 profiler on.

You'd have some $$$ leftover if you bought the 1000RR I saw on www.wowmotorcycles.com that I came across when searching for a Repsol. The other 1000RR's are near the $9K to $9.5 zone which is more savings in the end.

I think it was $9,790 approx for the Repsol and they're located in Atlanta. Kind of a drive for you, but they seem to have a decent inventory! If you wait until the new year rolls in I'm sure prices will drop a little more, but don't wait after March/April when the Spring Fever starts in and prices start to rise again! Good luck on your purchase if you jump up to the 1K editions.
