Default 2012 Honda 1000RR

Hey guys, I just have simple question. When a dealer doesn't have a bike in stock how long does it take for them to get the bike? Or, is it normally whatever they are sent?

Thanks

I think they don't have a choice in the matter, they get whatever comes on the truck. Most dealers will do "dealer trades" to get you what you want.

I think its different for every dealer depending on their size. The manufacturer will give priority to the dealers that sell the most. Also, depends on location. If your in a northern state, chances are pretty good your dealer will be the last on the list. The warmer climate dealers will get the bikes first.

Also, it depends on if the dealer ordered a certain bike. I know dealers around here that do not even carry sportbikes, they only carry cruiser type bikes. The manufacturer only makes so many bikes per year, and if the dealer your dealing with didn't order one, they will have to get one from a different dealer. That usually means no discount to you. IMHO, if your local dealer doesn't have what you want, look for another dealer. Of course, if you have a great history with that dealership, then by all means keep that relationship and give them the chance to get the bike for you.

This is only based on my opinion and what I've seen though, so take it for what its worth.

I bought mine from track 'n trail at State College, PA. They had all three colors of the '12 new and in the crate. Great price as mine was nearly $2k below MSRP. While they won't ship them in the crate, you could buy it and then ship it for less than it likely would cost locally.

These are great bikes. While I have not ridden a '08-'11, the handling and power on the new '12's is fantastic. The white, red, blue HRC edition I have has a gorgeous paint job on it as the white is pearlescent.

Good luck with the search.

I just got the 2012 myself. I had to call around to several dealers to get the black one. The dealer I went through in Washington, PA was able to special order it for me and it took about a week to come in.

I wanted one sooo bad, my insurance almost doubled for it tho. They have done alot of changes to the 2012. The gas tank has been moved to the center of the frame for better balancing, the lcd instrument cluster is just pro, 3 piston brakes on the front, Newer style rims. I'm jealous looool.

My insurance was nearly double the amount vs what I pay on the 600. Some of the difference is year model but my agent tells me most of the gap is due to the claims history on the two bikes.
