Been riding the 08 for about 5 days.I would NOT recommend this bike to new riders, period. this bike is all about throttle control. it is very much like a motogp bike in that sense. you only use heavy to 100% throttle a certain percentage of the time; any more than that and you just end up going slower overall or hurting yourself. ridden aggressively, this bike is totally bitchen. learning HOW to ride agressively while under control is best done on a dirt bike, or a street bike farther down the food chain. my 2 cents.
try ridin a 15-44 geared , 1/6 turn hrc throttle, mapped 06 then

It seems like we should just start a thread for people to bitch about what size bikeriders should start out on. It's probably not the best idea to start out on a 1k, but I see guys on 250's and 600's that shouldn't be allowed to ride a 10 speed.

It has been debated before. The consensus is no newer 1000 is suitable for a newb.

You're almost correct. Some people shouldn't be let out of the house, but they are most likely the people who don't listen to the experienced folks who give them advice anyhow. The rational people, who are down to earth but don't know anything about the lifestyle and impications of their actions, will listen. Thus, the reason we try to protect them from bad decisions that we have made or seen others make. Comprende?

I'm on a mission to see this thing in person.....cause I tell you what...from certain angles the thing looks bad a$$..then from others it looks amazingly ugly. As for the newbs argument....my 600 is already too fast...cant imagine what this thing is like...death ride 2000 for a newb

I finally saw it today for the first time. Don't care for it much. The badge looks out of place and the rear end plastics are bland. It's difficult to see from the pictures but the rear end has lost alot of width. Also the lower fairing plastics are very narrow near the kickstand and you can see the exhaust sticking out under the bike. To each their own. I'm sure alot of people will love it, I'm not one of them.

stock 1000's are slow.. end of story... a 600 is just as fast as a 1000.. it all depends on how you play with your throttle

I disagree a 600 is not as fast as a 1000. Bike for bike not whatever conditions. The new cbr1000 looks ugly as hell in magazines. But in person they don't look bad at all. Wish the tail end was a little sharper. This thing is awesome. Rode one and they are even easier and better handling and faster than the previous model. It feels so light. This thing is smaller than an R6. So is the new ZX-10. It is really smooth. If I was in the market for a liter bike this is the one I would go and get. But its not exactly a must have because of its looks right now. Maybe with better color schemes it would be more desireable. I'll stick with my repsol for now.

But if you want a big sized liter bike you better grap one while you still can. The GSXR 1000 and R1 are still big sized. Next year they are going to be smaller. They are all leaning towards smaller looking gp style exhaust having faster than you can possible go on the street side. The new R1 should look bad ***.

Congrats on the new cbr1k it is a killer bike to ride. I can understand what he means by suggesting that a newbie can hop on one. Its that smooth and light to toss around. But the power is definitely there in right hand.

So a good rider holds the throttle back further? You're an idiot.
