Default 2005 Suspension

I am 6'4" about 220 pounds. I am riding a 2005 1000RR. I am hoping that someone my size or close to it and has done some adjustments to the stock suspension and could help me get set up for canyon and street riding. Thanks

Look here...... Suspension Set Up.... It is a zip file, but safe to download. I scaned an article from Sportrider Magazine.

Also you can go HERE to find out what spring rate is suggested for your bike and size simiply enter your style of riding and weight.

The best thing someone your size (I fall in that size group also ) can do is have the forks revalved and resprung for you weight and through a Ohlins shock on the back.
I did and it's like riding a different bike , if I knew then what I know now that would have been my first mod.

I too am your size 6'5", 250lbs and the best thing is to have the forks redone.

But in the mean time crank out your preload adjusters mine are showing 6 lines and I still can't get the sag any where close to where is should be. I really don't know how far you can adjust your preload but going from 2 lines to 6 lines I noticed a difference however, the nose still dives something awful.

Stock you cant get the sag even close to what you need (it's setup for a 150lb rider) turn the preload on the forks to full stiff and the preload on the shock to full soft.

Wouldnt less preload on the shock cause the rear to sag even more? Id suggest maxing out preload on both ends for a guy your size. Increase compression damping too on the front, and slightly a less increase on the rear. Plus every bike is different, every road you ride on is different, and every person is different. There really is no amount you can look up that will be perfect for YOU. It will just take some time and trial and error. The range of adjustment on stock suspensions sucks also, I can play with my damping all day on my f4i and really cant tell much of a difference. Of course at 170 I am not too far above the weight the bike was designed for.

From the factory it is set up for 2up riding , the forks are to soft and the spring is to stiff.
You will never get it set the way you want with the stock parts , period.

you`ll need to adjust more than preload to stop the front diving. You read them articles? Try adding a little Compression (bottom o the forks) at a time and see how it improves what you want from it.

The problem with using someone elses settings is they may be the same weight but there riding style might make there settings fine for them but not for you. e.g I for one wouldn`t wind the rear preload out, it`d cause major rear squat when using full throttle.
