Arrow 09, 1000rr ABS or NOT?

So once I return from Iraq I plan on buying a 09 cbr 1000rr. The last bike I had was a couple years ago and it was a 98 cbr900rr. I probably will be amazed on the differences.. 11 years.. haha anyways.. I probably will never take my bike to a track to actually race but the question arises, Should I buy the ABS version that has the ABS brakes and .4 inches of more travel in the front susspension, OR just get the reg. version?

I am not a fan of linked brakes... The new abs system links the front and rear brakes and adds 20+ pounds to the bike.
My preference for independant control of the brakes points me to the non-abs model.

I read somewhere on this forum that the ABS system adds 20+ pounds. I haven't verified this, but if it is true, I would avoid it. The lightness of the '08-'09 design is one of its best features. It feels like a 600...I'm not sure that would be true if you added 25lb back in. I think that puts it back to being heavier than an '07.

Default Here we go again...

Let me save you some time here and I'll give you all of the answers you're going to get on this...

Yes - ABS is a good thing because it allows you to stop faster under less than ideal conditions and with less need for "perfection".

No - It's too heavy/expensive/complicated and doesn't belong on a sportbike because a real rider should learn how to brake and not rely on technology.

For the record, I have one bike with ABS and one without so I guess I go both ways on THIS topic.

I hate it on a car. I would never intentionally choose it on a bike. If it gets to the point that ABS is standard equipment, I will be-grudgingly accept it but then and only then.

well i am still split between which one.. probably the one without cuz for the first factor it is cheaper. i think having the ABS on the bike could complicate things. Wasnt it said that the front and bake are linked together.. thats good but bad u know..
I read somewhere, where they had change the full exhaust and the bike weighed i think like 35lbs lighter.. thats just nuts..

People hated abs on cars when it first came out. If your into classic cars you will still hear people say they hate abs and technology.
With that said I think its a good idea and in the future I think it will be a good feature to have. I have seen people lock up the front brake going around a turn and go over their handle bars. I think it will be a good safety feature once people accept it. Honda has always been ahead of its time.

I think it's 12-14 pounds (from a couple of articles i read awhile back) Also heard the goods outweigh the weight ratio.

Still don't like the new body style, so wont be getting one.

+1

I am the only person or thing that does the braking on any bike I own.
