05 1000rr head work
I have a 05 1000rr fully stock with just the flapper mod. Im planning to do a port and polish also shave my head. Has someone done this on their bike? I would like to get some feed back. My plans is to do these steps, the head work first then change the air filter add a pwer commander follow by a full exhuast. I would like to hear from you guys about the head work, Is it worth it or not.

WHY???? The head work is for racing not the street. It will make the compression of the motor go up even more, usually meaning more blown head gaskets. You will more than likely have to run 100+ octane fuel also. I would do the exhaust/power commander route and leave well enough alone.

The compression on a 09 Zx10 is 12.9:1, on the GSXRs 07/08 is 12.5:1 and the 09 is 12.8:1. On the 2005CBR it is 11.9:1. I didnt look up the older ZX10s, but they are up there with the 09 im sure, Kawi always puts compression in there motors. That is why you hear alot of GSXR/Kawi owners bragging they out run others, But its not always them outrunning a honda!!!!!! The GSXR thing is a Bandwagon that alot of new riders jump on. I dont want to step on any toes, no im not bad mouthing a Gixxer or Kawi. I do like the 04/05 ZX10s, not much of a Suzuki fan though. Something you got to keep in mind, Honda builds reliabilty into there bikes, and higher compression means more power and also more stressed parts. Head gaskets, overheating, detonation, etc. to name just a few. I would do some gearing and see if that will work, my 04 will outrun my 06 just because its been gear for more top end.

Im not sure how much power your going to get out of machining the head. You could buy a set of race cams, full exhaust, pc... ect.. You could get 200hp to the rear wheel with the right mods, but as already stated, your going to sacrifice reliability for power. And, as already stated, your going to have issues with finding enough octane to run at the pump.
Keep in mind its not just about compression. Meaning, the timing, the fuel map, the cam profile.. a lot of other things make the engines have the power they do.
If you look at all bikes and their quarter mile times. You'll see they are all within a few tenths of a second of each other and also a few mph of each other. Your really splitting hairs at that point.
But, if you still want to do it and need another head.. I have one from an 04 that there is nothing wrong with. The engine spun a bearing.

Thanks justasquid and whiteknite, I hope we allgive you some good info. The cylinder head work will be expensive. Just as stated before you will need a complete engine rebuild basically. Maybe try some NOS????? That way when the motor lets go after a few good shots of that then you can do some internal motor work. Dont break open the motor til its need to be.
