Default woohoo fixed it

so I had some issues with the alt. damper and chain tensioner, but after screwing with it for an hour or so this morning...I realeased the tensioner enough to get all the aprts back in...I had made a washer for the damper to tighten it up some and lo and behold...it freakin works! now I just have to get the chunk of metal out of the oil pan that I dropped in it yesterday, lol...used a hardened tool to bend the guide tab back in place and apparently they are only strong in one direction and really really weak in the other direction...so it snapped and dropped a 1" chunk of metal into the motor...dropping the oil pan to retrieve it then refill everything and go for a test ride.

lots of thanks for the help from the board and the other posts from kaska on the damper job.

will let you know how it all goes

Default rattle?

ok...so its runs pretty good and is scary as hell to ride...(never had a beast this big or fast), seems t have a rattle in the engine that sounds a whole lot like my friends cbr600 cam chain tensioner issue...not all the time, but when winding it out a little...havent gotten past 3rd gear yet...it definitely sounds like its in the top end and nothing to do with the chain from the alternator....is this something I need to fix right away before doing anything else or can I keep testing the bike and going through it?
are there other possibilities?

Most 1000F's have the rattle when cold. It should go away when she warms up a bit- if it doesn't, then you've got a problem.

Default warm?

never had one of these...not sure how long it needs to run before its warmed up, but it seems to have a little rattle like valves needing adjustment when I give it gas, but goes away as soon as I let up on the throttle...dont know if they have ever been adjusted...dont think its the balancer, but will check that as well. Im not running the airbox right now either...waiting on a part that was missing...could this add to that noise? dont worry...not riding full time till I have that part...just testing to find out what it needs..in idle its pretty quiet as far as the engine is concerned and the rattle goes away during the acceleration if I just give it more gas and move past the rattle or let up...right around 3-4k is where the noise is

I got the cam chain rattle too , but it seems to be pretty normal judging from what is written on this site . Only really noticeable on tick-over , mine disappears once she's nice and warm (bit difficult in this UK weather). Let her warm up properly and see if its still there , should quieten down a lot before the fan kicks in.

Not likely to be cam chain at 3-4K revs.
They generally only rattle at up to 2K revs, at least on my bike.
Could be something loose which could a "harmonic" rattle, happens only at certain revs, and annoying because it's hard to pinpoint.

congrats to fix the damper!

Don't worry too much about the cam chain tensioner, put the airbox on and then listen again. The rattling noise from tensioner from my bike usually appeared with cold engine and when driving with low rpm,s ( like lets say in city with 6th gear with 50-60kph)
Here are some pics from when i did my CCT http://web.zone.ee/kaspar10/bike/ - i didn't put in new one but added one spring to old one - this modification has now run over 8000km and so far it's all good, i just checked it out last week

Well if you are going to change the cam chain tensioner be sure not to drop anything in there

have the new parts on order to complete the airbox and the last owner found a couple more that I was needing...hope to have the box back in next week so I can figure out what this noise is...it doesn't seem bad, just makes me worry...one question on the damper chain tensioner....its auto right? meaning regardless of how loose I made it when I released the tension it should re-tension when the bike starts back up? or do I need to manually push it back to re-tension it?
