OMG , not one...but two of them!

Joe, you've made several comments that indicate that it's not me that doesn't know "how it works".

In response to shadow saying that the charge doesn't kick in until 3k rpms.
Good info there. May need to upshift less when noodling around.
Are you serious? Downshift, man. You shouldn't be at or below 3k on this bike.

It's only because it has so much torque that you can do this.
No it doesn't. The low end torque is almost non-existent on these bikes.

And since I hate to abuse my equipment, I usually let it loaf when I'm stuck at 40 or so.
Abuse equipment by revving this bike? They were born to rev, joe, it's where they run smoothly and with the best power. Run the **** out of it, you won't hurt it. Get the blood flowing (and the oil) for gawd sake! If you snap to WOT, and the bike doesn't want to take off, you're in too high a gear and too low of an RPM (or you're sprock and you have an 18t front sprocket).

Buster, what I would do is wait for the bike to have the problem and then start checking stuff. Do exactly what CBRClassic suggested on the fuel end, and then pull a plug or two and make sure you have spark when it's doing this and go from there.
If you don't have spark, you could be having electrical problems from the heat....ie coils heating up etc.
More info would be good, too, like shadow said.

Just had a chance yesterday to start the bike....bad weather, buying a house, new g.f....yada...

So I start it cold, no problem as usual....bring it up to temp and then I lift it upright off the kick stand and....drum roll.....it stops...what???....so I put it back down on the stand and it starts fine....upright...stops....I drained the carbs...then hot wired the fuel pump to refill them and.....won't start...flooded I think....my last 65 degree day for the duration, crap....I jumped it with a car battery and it just wouldn't go...this bike has started great up till now....I did check a plug, clean, no prob...I did clean the carbs when I got it 8 mths ago....maybe tomorrow I can find some time to fool with it...spray some wd40..but I'm thinking flooding out equals another carb cleaning...
