windshields
I've never done it to one of these but my old CB1100f had one of those "big ***" fairings fitted. Never again. The bike was shockingly unstable, noisy & the wind buffeted me in the head. Not nice to ride.Interestingly though, I've been looking at purchasing a BMW k1200s & the reviews mention that the screen needs to be shorter to reduce noise. On a previous bike I'd rather not mention I had a bikini fairing fitted with a large curved screen. It was great. In the wet at high speed, you stayed dry & it was quiet too. I think it all depends on the design.
I don't think it would put any noticeable download on the front tire. I do worry about it changing the airflow and making things worse. I had a CBX once with a fork-mounted fairing and it was terrible - directed the wind right into my face. The bike was much more comfortable to ride with the whole thing removed.
I have tried 4 different screens on mine. Can't feel the difference. The bike is so heavy, that the added downforce isn't noticed. The only thing you notice is a huge improvement in comfort at speeds above 80-90 mp/h.
The reason I started this is I did a bit of tripping aroundoz on aXL600 and I trimmed 5inches off the front mud guard and it stopped a lot of the wind knocking me around. I had theXL geared at 4000 at 110ks. I still have theXL and bought it in 84.
Hi Blackmax, my screen was simply called a double bubble with a touring lip and I bought this scrren from a place called Hancrat in Sydney. Their phone number is 02 9674 3586 hope this helps out. Also this screen was a quality scrren about 3 to 4 mm thick, I have alos bought my blackbird screen from them as well
The one that use is very good when on the motorways.
