what type of fuel should I use?

Hey there,

I was wondering what type of fuel I should use. The previous owner said she only used supreme, but im thinking that his bike being so old should be able toget along with the cheap stuff just as good and i might just be building up on carbon. Alos, if anyone hasa link to a service manual...you might want to give it before I litter this whole board with "dumb" questions :P

The bookhas 91 or higher, my 88 pings on low octane so i always run high octane

Yup, Premium grade (you know, the best choice offered in the states 91,92,93).

funny, my shop manual states 86 or above. 1993 usa model. That would be anything here, as the lowest grade is 87. Unless you are experiencing detonation, you should use what the manual says; for us in the states, it's 87. It works great for me, I can lug down to 2000 RPM in top and pull away without any pinging. 47 MPG (US) overall.
FYI, the debate is over, lower octane equals more power; the higher octane numbers have increased resistance to detonation, allowing higher compression, etc. There's actually less energy per unit of higher octane fuel.
No, you can't hurt anything by running higher than necessary octane. Just spending more money and getting ( ever so slightly) less power.
You can screw things up by running AV gas, like some neanderthals believe will give them more power.

My 1987 1kf manual stated 91 octane :p

But if you really had to, in an emergency, you could probably run 87 octane if you don't load your bike...or find a hardware store and put in a couple ounces of Toulene (poor man octane booster) or Dry Gas (the alcohol should help raise octane a little).
