Thumbs down What a rip-off !

I've just been searching for a temp sender unit for my bike - local quote from Honda "we don't have one" - typical ! PRICE (IF THEY HAD ONE) around $60 US !! 45 GB pounds !!
I looked up the part number on the net, and there are probably 30 bikes and at least 20 CARS that have the same unit, including a Mazda 323. Shot into our local spares place - sure, they have one. Price ?
$12 US !!! 8 GB pounds. IT'S THE IDENTICAL UNIT !!!!!
BTW - same unit in the US from the "usual places we go" varies between 35-42 US dollars..............hmmmmmmmm
Just goes to show - knowledge is power.
Thanks to all who assisted with part numbers.

this is one reason why out here in the US if I go to a honda dealer and ask for the part number for something they refuse to tell me...they told me its to prevent me from going somewhere else to purchase the part...I always try to research what else a part will match so I can go to the local auto store and buy the same thing for 1/3 the cost because its for a car....hell...the same part may have a different cost depending on what car its used on as well...sucks...glad you found a good place for it.

Yeah a real rip off Shadow! Glad you found the right part at the right price.

I noticed the price of a thermostat is around £27 here which also seems a bit steep.

There is no reason for these prices , except to rip folks off for as much as they can . They don't even manufacture most of these bits , they're just generic parts and are mass produced in huge numbers , keeping costs down for everyone except us

Just thought that maybe in the tech help sticky we're gonna get , maybe we could get a list going of alternate vehicles that use the same parts like this one?

If I ever get my old girl going again I need a fan switch. Around $90AU from Honda. Might be a good idea for me to find out the part number & do a search. I know a wrecking yard that sells them for $6. Even if it is a dud who cares...$6??

That is a rip-off, shadowman!
I had a similar experience the other week with my Toy truck. Dam stealership wanted $40 for a thermostat! "But it's dual stage", they tell me....
Screw that. I bought a $4 stant and drilled a 1/8" hole in it. There's your "dual stage", you freakin' crooks!!

That's good information to know. I was thinking about replacing mine this spring. I checked out ROCKAUTO.com and under 1990 Mazda 323 they have them for $4.15 US.
