RE: Welding
Disconnect battery & alternator, and ECU as Mark mentioned..
I think that about covers it mate..
I know stripping her bare to weld the frame is a touch out of the question...
but....as you said , these old girls electrics are very sensitive , I personally would still be a bit paranoid about hitting the frame with a welder while anything was connected ?
What are you intending to weld?

I think a few fireworks would be fun. Brings back memories of my old landcruiser. I set that on fire three times in one day. Finished up with no roof lining.
Seriously though I am hoping to do some exhaust mods & will need to tack weld it while in position.

sorry I know I should not laugh
Something I used to do when welding on my trail bikes .. and I am not exactly sure if it helped , but I ran an earth to ground from the bike using a battery jump lead to the garage in ground earth stake as well as using the welder earth obviously..
My theory was that any charge that was running through the frame would dissipate to ground and not build up and fry the electrics... it may have helped because I never did fry any of them in any way ..

No once was not enough [:@]. I like the look of thick black smoke coming out of my pride & joy. Just because the roof was like swiss cheese & I was trying to fix it. The gods of humor obviously needed a giggle at my expense. I still drove it for three years all burnt & black till I bought a new vehicle but just don't seem to be able to part with the cruiser. I giggle about it these days as it's a great talking point.
Thanks for the response & I like the idea of earthing the bike to the shed. Last thing I want is to cook anything.

Of course by earthing it to the shed, you can then burn the bike and the shed down together....
