+1 on MarkR. Sounds like the perfect place to start, and very easy to do. Search the forum for it.

If you pull the clutch in and it goes away, it's not in or pass the drive chain (Wheels chain or sprockets)
If you rev it with the clutch in and vibration come back at 4k then it's in the engine.

There a good thread about doing the balancer adjustment - pictures and everything.

Hi everyone,
I adjusted the balancer yesterday, and found two things that were a bit strange. First the manual says "anti-clockwise till it stops" well, mine just continuously turns, and I managed to induce an oil leak, as the shaft moves out of the casing a little. I managed to stop it by pushing on the shaft, didnt move much but it stopped the leak, cos I had nightmare visions of sump removal! Just take care under there......

Same here on my first try. It was a little spooky trying to find where the shaft stopped turning and it never did. If memory serves correctly, the shaft should be turned until slight resistance is felt, and then turned the opposite direction a short distance -two notches? I set mine by trial and error: move the balancer to tighten, fire up the engine, shut down, move it, etc. until there was no vibration. At that point, though, there was a loud whine sothe shaft wasbacked off until the whine disappeared. That left just the faintest bit of vibration.

Hi ANdy, I did this yesterday on my 91 1000F. First I tried with the engine off, couldent feel any stop, so started the engine and tried again. Now there was no doubt, you could easily hear when you should stop. I haven't had a ride yet, but hardly can't wait.. !
