Default VFR Bars

Hi folks it's me again,

After being off the CBR for 18 months (health problems) I have been getting it ready for the summer to hopefully do some local trips and have finally fitted my VFR bars.

My question is this, has anyone figured a way to get some slack on the throttle cables apart from taking them on the outside of the fork tube?

Yeah , I ran into that problem can't remember what the hell I did to the 93 1000F
.......I'll look tomorrow and get back to you because my 1990 is getting a similar
kind of treatment this week-end only this time with adjustable bars.

Thanks Shadow, After further investigation it doesn't seem like you can do much else and having looked on the net I'm now wondering if VFR cables will fit and if they are the right length?

If it's any help Karlo,
I've put VFR bars on my '91' and there was no issue with the cables at all.
The only thing you might have to watch out for is the position of the switches when they locate into the holes in the bars. I've found that the VFR bar holes are slightly further towards the ends of the bars by 6-7 mm which means that I can't get the stock weights back on properly. I'm using a spare set for now but will have to mill out the holes to be able to slide the switches further down when time permits.
Other than that, it's sooooooooooooo worth it for an improved riding position.

Good luck with yours Sprock. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

The only issue I have on my FT is the throttle cables are to tight on right hand lock you can actually feel them stretch if you push the bars to full lock. The switches are fine although the brake light switch is close to the bars.

I have run them around the outside of the fork leg but I'm not happy as on right hand lock the throttle is extremely stiff.

Plus 1 to all Henry said, I drilled out the stock weights ( wider, VFR takes a larger bolt) and ground off half moon piece where it connected to "old" inner bar weight so it sat flat against the VFR bar

When I lifted the tank I was able to pull a little slack out of the cables and I seem to remember messing about with the brake line too ....over the throttle cable

Yeah Henry , gonna start messing with those other adjustable ones Sunday morning

google "custom made motorcycle cables"
there's a place in belfast here(called East-End Motorcycles, Newtownards road, Belfast)
they repaired a cable for me that broke on my sons bike, \(new parts v measurements)/
and he can lengthen outers and inners also,
i'm sure there are lots of companies like this.

it cost me £22 for a new inner and ends fitted, so prob double that for a inner and outer settup,,, but if it does the job right, it would be well worth it.

personally i would use the old one for 'add on measurements' and a sample with a letter and drawing(ya need to do some footwork with some string or something.
then when your removing the bars you can fit the old cable and sell the bar-ends and cable as a kit(for a higher price)

Also Karlo I have mine pushed "up" forward a bit more than yours -- straighter---
See where the pinch points are ...... gives a bit more cable slack ...also makes
steering input a bit more "precise" and besides you seldom go lock to lock on these
bikes
