Motion Pro makes a tool for doing valve adjustments on screw type tappets. Will this work on our engines?

That idle mixture tool is a pricey toy. If it is running fine at idle why mess with it. You know the old saying...... Also I believe your year has the ā€œDā€ shaped screw.

I don't know if there is enough clearance for that valve-adjusting tool, especially for the exhaust valves. Hopefully someone has the experience to say Ya or Na.

As for the carb sync goodies, how often do you do that? I check mine 15 to 20K miles and they are never that far out. When it's time to do them, I pull thevacuum hose from the petcockand hook itinto the gage. Ihook my vacuum tool to the petcock and draw a vacuum to open the fuel to the engine. On mine #1 is easy to get to, #2 is to the petcock, #3 is not so hard and #4 can slap me in the face.

I love tool also but I see things differently than you with these tools.
Total $63.51 plus shipping = about 4.5 tanks of fuel @ $3.00/gal = about 900 miles of open road.

Some choices are harder than others.

 

Don't you need a 3mm Allin key to hold the adjuster.

 

The motion Pro Tool will work fine as it has 3 & 4 mm Square adapters.

The hoses are a great idea and save you a lot of time with the carb synch, especially if you have big hands. I use em.

That idle mixture screw will only work if you have screw adjusters. Most of you guys in the States& Europe have the "D" shaped mixture adjusters. I just adjust mine when they are off the bike as per manual.

 

That's right I forgot about the "D" shaped adjuster on carbs. Adjusting them on the bike is better, and is done in along with the carb sync.
I might try this tool and see how it works. I think I'm due for a valve adjustment here soon.
Cain and sprockets are going on this week. I've got the bike on the new lift ready towork on it!

 

They must have changed it then because the set I bought from Motion Pro was not deep enough to catch the locknut while still clearing the side of the head.

 

Malbojah, does it look like the one I linked? From what you say it sounds like the handle interfers with the head casting? In other words the tool needs to be deeper?

 

That's the one I bought. And yes, the tool does need to be deeper. As it is, it has the depth of a regular socket, but needs to be the depth of a deep socket.

 

oops my mistake. The one I saw was a Snap on one.

Just go the Honda one its not that dear.
