Default Using a GPS

Can anyone supply any mounting tips or usage tips for installing a GPS on a cane? Im looking at getting one, but the internal batteries only last 4 hours or so and I think hooking one up to a cigarette lighter might be the best way to go. Where on a hurricane is the best place to hook up a cigarette lighter? Fuse box or right from the battery with a in-line 10amp fuse maybe and run the wires along the tank??

As far as I know you can't mount a GPS on standard CBR bars - guys who use the GPS generally fit streetfighter-type bars. Best power point is from the LHS fusebox, safest option IMHO-no wiring under the tank, straight up to the bars. Using bike power is a MUST - my car GPS goes flat in under 4 hrs on rechargeables. Fit an extension aerial on the tailpiece - gives better satellite reception and accuracy.Good luck !

I wasnt thinking of mounting it on the handlebars, but just keeping it in my tank bag. Thanks for the idea about the anntenna Shadow.

Sure you can! R.A.M has a mount that attaches to the screws holding the hydraulic fluid container/clutch lever, I've got one for my CBR, with a waterproof box where I put my cell phone which has GPS software. R.A.M has a BIG arsenal of holders for GPS. Check this out: R.A.M mounts

aah well, Blue was faster than me. Started writing the answer and then went to dinner, posted it after 1,5 hour. However, check out my link to R.A.M mounts.

Just goes to show - you live and learn ! Never seen those mounts, probably never imported into this backward country.....
Thanks for info, guys, now maybe I'll fit mine on the bike.....

I use a R.A.M. mount as Mikekop mentioned. I installed a Powerlet connection in the steering stem ALA this link:

Works wonderfully and I use the Powerlet connection for my heated jacket. Win Win situation.

That powerlet looks great! Did you install it on your CBR or on your VFR which the kit is designed for? If on the VFR, would the kit fit a CBR as well?
