Default time for valve adjustement

good morning

how long does it take you to adjust the valves on your bike, for those whom do it themselves? I got to plan the time it will take me. and does it takes any special tools ?

Thanks

Hi Carl - Having never done this before I followed the pictures in this ..... http://gonzo-home.com/cbrmaint.htm#Valves
and it took me 4 hours. I am slow and double checked evrything. Prepare with the "Special Tool" as in the pictures first (cost me $8.00 for the long socket).

Note warning - place reg around the cam chain so you don't drop anything (nuts, washers) in the guts of the motor.

What is the size of the locknut socket we have to use 3mm, guess we have to use a deep socket?

Have a look at Tallenuf's post on the special tool he made.

The lock nut is 10mm. The adjusting screw is a 3mm hex (allen wrench) at least on later models.

The job takes 2-4 hours depending on experience. It's better to take your time and get it right rather than have speed be the driving factor.

Yeah, take your time. The exhaust side can be a bit of a knuckle buster. I used the 10 mm deep socket method, grounded at the one end, with an allen key, and it worked fine for me. Dont forget a few dobs of silicone on the corners of your valve cover gasket where the cam seals are when you re-install it!

Yeah, what everyone else said. I used the the grinder on the deepwell socket method, and grabbed it with vice grips. If you grind it to the perfect size, you canget a regular wrench to fit the socket. Sometimes easier to get in and out. The job took me about 2-3hrs my first try, once I got all the emissions crap off (additional few hrs).
Good luck, and take your time. You don't want to have to go back in once you're done.
You'll be fine. Just read and follow the manual.
