Thinking of buying a cbr1000f
 

Hi all

New here, but I am thinking of buying a 1988 CBR1000F. The one I am looking at has 88,000 miles. Are there any major issues about buying a high mileage one?

I have had many bikes in the past. Lots of 125,s (2 hondas). A fzr600, I am currently on a BMW f800 st and a xj600. I wouldn't mind the cbr as a toy :)

Any thoughts?

88,000 is just about run in. Standard problems include rattly timing chain tensioner but bikes have done double that mileage with the rattly tensioners.

Im trying to figure out the best way of driving 200 miles to collect a bike.

I have asked him for some proper pictures, the ones I have for the moment show very little!

For £300 you can't go wrong mate, you could break her for parts and make double that.

She looks as though she just needs a bit of tlc. The most obvious thing is the seat, patience will find you a good one on e-bay for not too much money, alternatively any upholsterer can recover it for about £50.

Fill in your details, you never know we may be neighbours and it helps us find parts for you.

My thoughts exactly. I bougt a 2001 honda 125 scooter recently for the same money!

I was thinking of replacing the seat cover with something like this:

Honda CBR 1000F sc24 SEAT COVER; | eBay

It looks good, and I should be able to re-cover it myself.

All done! Likely to be changing soon as im moving :(

For £300 you'd struggle to buy that Yoshi on its own. Just think of it as a free bike with the exhaust.
This isn't an 88 model by the way. It's either an F or an L (circa 1989/91). Obvious by the registration she fell out of the crate in 1990.
To my knowledge, black is not a standard colour so it looks like it's suffered a full respray at some point. You'll need to practice your plastic welding skills to keep the fairings in good shape but they are made of good quality material so not hard to repair. They aren't easy to find though so look after them. For the cost of new ones from Honda you may as well buy a new CBR.
Yes, she needs plenty of TLC but then that's half the fun isn't it? As long as you've got a good engine this is a good bike to play with.
