Test of Love
Hi all. I'm in need of a little counseling.
We have had bad rains here in Sydney so have been driving the car all week
struggling and stressing with mass traffic, anyways had a stressful day at work today and around 4pm I get a text from my 15 year old son. Dad I have
some not very good news to tell you, I said whats up, he says very sheepishly
"I dropped your bike"..... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he then adds Ive been trying to pick it up but its too heavy so Ive been trying to device a pully system from beams on the roof... by now I have red-lined and just wanted to get home. Leave work only to face a 1.5 hour traffic jam blah blah blah.
It was like I was trying to get home to my injured baby but I couldnt cause of the farking traffic. I eventually got home..only to see what you see in the pic.. serious felt like crying...
I love my son. I love my bike...after a few deep breaths I concluded I was
glad he didn't get hurt or pinned under the wieght of the bike. Apparently he was just having a feel and it started leaning toward the non stand side and the weight just took him down. He said he tried his best to lay it down as gentle as possible...grrrrr I still love him.

Hope the damage is minimal.
I'd go up the wall to let off some steam, always a good opportunity to practice your shouting skills!
My kid's as tall as me now at 13, but I can still make him jump out of his skin with the right tone of voice

As you said, it could have been worse he could have had it fall on him, but then that would have cushioned the bikes fall

Horse_power777,
You should be proud of your son, he made a mistake, but like a man he stood up and told the truth.
Your bike can be mended, but you bond with your son will be that little bit stronger, have faith in him he sounds like a good young man.
You must be a good role model and a good dad.

For good wisdom.. Yes .. I didn't show anger
It was more saddened and disappointed ..but
We spoke some more and maybe it's time
To get him a trail bike and learn some good
Riding skills cause he allready saying he not
Gonna drive he wants to ride and get bike
License when old enough.. Hmm mixed feelings on that
One but I can't be a hypocrite..
Checked the bike no major damage bit of
Roughing on the centre part of the fairing
And a small protrution at the bottom of the fairing
.. Noticed petrol smell prolly from tank cap, imagine the
Oil all sitting side of the engine.. I started
Her up and all good.
Sharp intake of breath when I saw that photo.
But like the others said, I'm just glad it didn't fall on him. That could've been bad.
Also glad that there's minimal damage and she starts ok. You never know how a drop will end up.
that's funny .. I could be of the road for a few years waiting..I was surprised
how quickly i picked it up myself though..pure adrenaline.
yeah thanks man, me too..hes ok..must have felt awful dropping the bike though. lessons learn t the experiential way on all accounts. but one thing for sure i'll all-ways center stand her now.

While I was still living at home, my dad and I both owned Yamaha 550 Visions. Mine was a well used 82 and his was an immaculate 83. While attempting to sort the carb on my bike, my dad offered the use of his bike to get to work on. "Straight there and STRAIGHT back", I remember him saying.
Long story short, I took the loooong way home and ended up going into a corner too hot, running wide onto the gravel shoulder and stuffing his bike. The bike was completely written off. He told me that he was happy I wasn't hurt worse than I was (broken collar bone) and tried to brush it off, but I knew it wasn't over. Sure enough, months later, it boiled over during a seemingly minor argument, and degenerated into an all out brawl. Literally.
In the end the whole affair brought us a little bit closer together. I cannibalized the wreck for parts after I bought it off him, and he bought a VFR which he loved. Years later I told him the whole event could have played itself out much earlier as I had been poaching rides on his bikes for years prior to getting my permit and own bike.
Aaaah the memories!
end note : Those Visions were a pile. Talk about an engine in need of a home!
