TANK VENTS

TANK VENTS
I've just had my tank coated internally to cure a persistent leak.
Beautiful, no leak BUT I'm now getting a pressure rise in the tank which means the tank isn't venting properly. Pressure builds up and the bike won't run.....[:@]
The tank has two vents, it seems -
one just inside the filler cap on the left, which flows into a rubber recepticle on the carbs, and a smaller thin diameter tube under the tank, about 25MM long, which appears blocked. I don't know where it comes out - must be near the cap somewhere.
Maybe it's in the filler cap unit itself ? Can anyone enlighten me on this ? I'd rather fix it myself, than send it back to the coating people.
Thanks

RE: TANK VENTS
From what I have just read ...
The one that is at the filler is only for spill catching while filling up...
That smaller one underneath is obviously the tank breather mate .....again obviously it should not be blocked as you know..
Even though you cant see where the bugger exits ........it must exit inside the tank somewhere up high ..
Assumption:
If the tank sealer has blocked it then you some how need to unblock the bugger ..
Have you tried a very fine probe ( fine wire ? perhaps stiff stripped electrical wire mate) shoved up it to see if it will clear it..?
It may have tight bends inside the tank stopping any probe , but it might be worth a try ..??

RE: TANK VENTS
OK ...
Gee wizz ...something must have changed between the last time you used it and it going to the coaters[:-] and yer , I know that you obviously would like to know where it comes out Pete , but I just went 30 pages deep in several searches to find any mention of the bloody thing ....nudda , nothing mate...
-Another Hypothesis-
It may be that because it is a vent that the inlet to it within the tank is very very small ?
This would make it seem blocked if you are trying to blow down it with your gob to check it mate ..?
If it is tiny hole it would block very easily ...have you tried a bit of compressed air ?
yer yer ....ok ..so I am clutching at straws

hi Pete
Fear I'm of little help too ... fear my research without tangible result and / or things you already know.
As a matter of elimination - what is NOT your vent - Attached photo shows..
BLUE - ????
YELLOW - tank fuel guage cable cover sheath.
GREEN - Pet lock vacume hose..

RE: TANK VENTS
If I'm not wrong Pete's bike is a California model...now, on my bike, if I top up the gas level, and leave the bike in the sun for some time, I will hear some "shizzing" sound coming from the gas cap, I can even see some very tinny bubbles popping out of the ring around the area where the key goes in, this means that the gas cap has a vent also to prevent from an explosion originated from gas build up...I guess
Good luck Pete and I wish to have more wisdom in my back to help you the way you have helped a lot more!!!
