Suspension Mods

Okay, who's done some suspension mods on their 1Kf?
I'm thinking of the race tech 1K springs, Gold modulators and possibly some sort of rear shock swap. Has anyone done a rear shock and spring swap from another bike? I can mod the dog bone if need be. I'd like something with remote adjustment.
Post up lads!

The Racetech setup on the front is the way to go. Unfortunately there is no easy replacement other than race shocks for ours. The CBR linkagse setup means that a very stiff rate of spring is used as standard. Plus the bottom part of the shock that goes on the dogbone is much wider than other bikes.
From what I have been told by suspension guys here in oz it is not financiall fesible to modify another bikes rear shock unless it is an Ohlins etc.

I'm not really interested in doing a SSA on this bike. Just a shock upgrade. I do see a couple of things that might be needed like notching the frame to clear the top of the shock. Maybe I'll take the shock off and find something that is close. There has to be another bike out there that is close in size. I can have it revalved if needed.

You can download the shop manual on http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/inde...howtopic=32678and see how the rear shock is installed on a birdand how it looks.
Measurement on my stock rear shock today:
CC between bushings onfully extended shock: 320 mm
Upper bushing: width 28 mm and 10 mm hole
Lower bushing: width 39 mm and 10 mm hole
Spring: OD 83 mm and 13 mm wire
Lower bushing center to bottom of spring: 53 mm
Upper bushing center to top of spring: 57 mm (preload adjusted so there are 60 % free threads above spring)
Body diameter: 44 mm
Installed spring length: 210 mm on mine. At minimum preload the spring length will be about 240 mm. I don’t know the free length though; it should be slightly more than 240 mm.
I didn’t measure the stroke. The bird linkage has a gearing of 5 to 1, so assuming there is a normal travel of at least 120 mm at the rearwheel center; the stroke at the shock must be 25 mm, but it looks to be much more than this.
The pic below is a screen dump from the shop manual, I have a better pic in the mobile but need to use a card reader if you needit. Or PM me your mobile numberand I'll MMS it to you.
If you feel it is worth to spend the money on a new shock I think e.g. hyperpro have new ones to the CBR 1000 F, take a look on the home page. The bird shock must however be far cheaper since many bird owners has changed the rearshock on almost new bikes and there should be plenty around in good condition for a small amount. You could have mine for free but it is not worth the freight cost since it has almost zero rebound damping even fully adjusted.
