Default Strong gas smell/leak

I have a 94 cb1000 and when i park it in my garage overnight it makes the whole thing smell like gas. I went to move it today and saw a small spot on the ground and smelled it, and it smelled like gas. this appears to be a vent tube coming from the tank, but i am not 100% certain. I just got the bike so i still havent gone through it. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this. I have had older bikes than this without this problem, so I would like to get it fixed.

Thanks
Ryan

How full is the tank and is she on the side stand or the main stand?

There is an overflow, which leads to a rubber tube running to the underside of the bike.

I am pretty sure the center stand has been removed. It is on the side stand. I filled it up and the bike had about 30miles on the tank when i noticed the spot on the floor. But when i got the bike home, i noticed the smell, but didnt check for a spot on the floor. The bike had about 120miles out of that tank.

I'd start by checking the rubber hoses that exit the underside of the bike.

If that draws a blank then it's a matter of checking the tank over for leaks around weld seams, also the underside where the fuel level sender unit is and then work your way through the fuel system. Fuel tap, fuel lines and carbs.

My bike had a leak in the seams up the front (top) underneath where it bolts onto the frame. It smelled of fuel whenever I left the tank full (half full - not a problem). It just weeped out a little and drove me nuts until I found it. I found that the foil covered shielding under the tank was slightly moist with fuel in the morning.

I covered all of the seams up front (underneath) with JB-Weld which cured it nicely. I'll post a photo if you want.

After checking the items mentioned above, make sure the floats are set at proper height other wise you can get overflow from carbs.

May want to check the carb fuel bowls too

They usually leak until empty .....then all drys up

until you come back and park the bike the next time

hi Lilryan
i have the fl model from about the same time
i had for years a smelly tank, thought it was the tank cap to begin with
pop up the tank on its stand
look under the front mount
if it looks dark or wet , thats the problem
honda use cheap thin metal and spot welds , the stress cracks the tank and it leaks
of course being japs they never admit fault but on later models they added continious welds to the side of the plate to mitigate the problem, so a tacit admisson of a cockup
i tried the sealing around the front plate like the pics , lasted 1 month
tried epoxy sealant in the tank lasted 1 month
in the end bought a tank from a breakers yard
one day will try to find someone in bel or uk who can really do tank welding and do a proper job of it
greetings
cpbpaul
