still running the stock brake lines?
Are you guys still running the oem brake lines on your bikes?I have to rebuild my rear caliper in the spring, its dragging lightly. Was wondering if i should get a stainless brake line while i have it drained. My BMW RT1100rt has known problems with the brake lines deteriorating internally and acting like a check valve essentially locking the caliper after hard braking,i havent had the problem yet but its in the back of my mind. The brakes are fine on my hurricane, just that the rear disc is kinda warm when i stop the bike after not having used the rear brake in a while. The fronts are cold. Thanks
I'd replace it. I'd replace all of them. Stainless brake lines are huge for increasing brake performance. Hell, the line might even be why the caliper is dragging.
The line was $50 Galfer SS from ebay . just for the rear, kind of expensive but it is a long line, plus their fittings and hardware are top notch. My 87 Hurricane does not have linked brakes from the factory.
The rear caliper pin was corroded and binding, just cleaned it up and lubed. Will order new pin as it is pretty well pitted.I replaced the aftermarket pads with NOS Honda pads.I had ordered a full caliper rebuild kit as well as a new stainless line but didnt see the need at this time. The stock brake line looks pretty well designed, its still appears to be in great shape.More spares to sit on the shelf.
Stock rubber lines usually look good on the outside. Its the inside rubber that swells in brake fluid and causes restriction. Since you have the line, change it.
in one of my auto classes in college, we took a rubber cup from a wheel cylinder and put it in a cup of brake fluid. Then put in in a cupboard for the duration of the class. It almost doubled in size...
