Steering question on different bikes
Ok, yesterday, I went out on my Suzuki TL1000S and found that it is difficult to countersteer at higher speeds. Today, I took the CBR-F out and it was easier to countersteer at higher speeds (thank God, missed the cows). The other day, I took my wife's Suzuki S40 Boulevard out and it was like a whip to countersteer (sometimes too fast and felt like it was going to loose the front end out from under me!). So, I went out this evening to see what is up with my countersteering technique.
I found that the TL1000s puts me "on top" of the hand grips instead of behind them. So, when I countersteer with the TL, I am pushing "down" instead of forward. If I try to push forward, I am using my thumbs to push forward with!!! So, I am really not countersteering with a TL, I am push leaning with the TL....
The CBR-F is a nice 45 degree angle so there is downward and forward pressure at the same time. The S40 is all forward and no downward at all (drag bars!). So, the S40 kind of pushes the tire out from under me.
I don't see any adjustment to the TL in the handlebar area and using my thumbs to push countersteer is out - thumbs are weak and will loose the hold on the grips!
Have you brothers/sisters figured out why this is and what I could do about the TL countersteering? I figure a CBR-RR might be close to the TL so if you have one let me know what you do.... Thanks
