Hi guys, just changed the old and rusty 16-year old steering bearings this weekend, but now there's something wrong with the steering and I can't tell what it is exactly. There's a slack movement like described in the pic:

Any thoughts on it? thanks!

Have you tightened the steering bearing properly?

 

Yep, changed the bottom bearing to the tappered roller type (couldn't find the right size for the retainer type ones), that might have something to do with it?

 

Bearings haven't seated, or are wrong type IMO[X(]

 

Oh well, time to pay the good ol' mechanic a visit then!

 

WHS I had a mechanic do mine and they weren't seated properly. Came loose almost straight away. Its something you need to get looked at asap.

 

Of course, as soon as tomorrow! I'm aware this isn't a simple job to do, so I wonder why there isn't a more detailed explanation on the Haynes manual

 

Well turns out bearings just needed to be seated (Shadow!!), a couple of turns of the nut got the job done
