If you want more speed and less revs , 45 and or 16 will do the job...

May I ask why you want to change from stock ones which are pretty good ratio's..

These old girls are happy to sit on 5000-5500 rpm quite economically (120-130 klm per hr / 70-75mph)

are you a bit of a speed freak ? LOL

I think our Oz has it backwards Higher front and lower rear will give you more speed, less revs.
Steve's option will give higher revs and lower top end........

Default sprocket/speedo

Just bought a pristine 1990 Silver 1000F. The previous owner went down a tooth to a 16 tooth front sproket.

That would throw my speedo off...right?

I want to go back to a stock 17 tooth front.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Yup, and as they generally read about 8% high, you'll be about 15 % high with 16T front.

Pictures of the bike are a requirement around here..........................

Just been out and checked the rear sprocket 43t, one tooth above standard, no wonder the engine seemed to rev so hard.

I think when i replace the sprockets i will opt for standard up front and a 41 or 40 on the rear.
Has any one here done this gearing ratio and what was it like?
